It’s always great to see transportation issues put into focus in new and exciting ways, and I wanted to bring to your attention a new outlet for discussion hosted by NationalJournal.com. Today, they launched their new Transportation Expert blog where each week, transportation professionals will focus on a different question or challenge.
The inaugural discussion focuses on priorities for the next surface transportation bill—a great topic, if you ask me. I’ve posted my thoughts, as has our friend, Secretary Norman Mineta. Check out our posts, and let me know what you think!

Good info. I always get this feeling when I see re-surfacing going on when I dont feel it is needed. Sometimes it just seems like there is money that needs to spent so they go out and fix a road.
But what I will say is around us the roads are real nice compared to other areas in the country so I guess overall I am happy.!

Transportation is I think often overlooked. It seems they often wait to long before beginning repairs, which means more of our precious tax dollars wasted. However they do a pretty good job over all.

Resurfaceing is important espeacially after the winter months. With technology of today it would seem they could find a surface material that would last a little longer.

Taking care of roads is the most important things a country can do for its citizens. I spent some time in America and your roads a superb compared to here in the United Kingdom. Keep up the good work. And at least your tax dollars look like they are being put to good use. Can't wait to get back.

I think that the roads and infrastructure In the United States are the best, I have been to other places where the infrastructure is in ill repair and if you would call them roads are a poor excuse, I just hope We keep putting money into our roads and highways and sites like these keep getting the attention they deserve.

I do not mind money being spent on local roads as long as every tax dollar is account for. Matter of fact the roads being worked is the best use of money.

It's very important to take good care of your roads - it's uplifting for people who live nearby. I spent some time in America and your roads are wonderful compared to here in South Africa. Keep up the great work - tax dollars being put to good use.

America's roads are its lifeline. The commute brings so many people to so many places.. without our roads this wouldn't be possible.. My uncle is a trucker and I've always respected his work..

I'd like to see the DOT help improve public transportation across the U.S. in cities that need it. New York, Chicago and Seattle have phenomenal public transport systems, but here in Southern Nevada, our public transportation is limited to buses that run infrequently, stop service late at night and is so unreliable that one can frequently expect to be "stood up" because the hourly bus never arrives due to a driver calling in sick, a bus breaking down or any number of other problems.
Public transportation is greener and it benefits the elderly, the disabled and those who cannot afford an automobile and the expenses that go with it (fuel, insurance, etc).

Better rules about transporting livestock that help with going green are needed I think! Perhaps people would change there focus to eating more local produce and reduce emissions produced from unnecessary transport.

Road condition improvement and providing good roads for transportation is the government's job. Yes this responsibility of job can be felt in USA where the roads are nice and in very good condition. Then the citizens also feel like paying taxes.
