Spring brings renewal, and for state DOTs--and the men and women of the construction trades--this is the season to catch up on all of the important repairs and maintenance projects that winter weather prohibits. Ordinarily, this would also be a time to roll out upgrades and new projects that solve larger transportation challenges.
But until Congress passes a transportation bill, our nation's highway departments and transit agencies face too much funding uncertainty to plan for tomorrow. That means that they can't commit to projects, which means that contractors, workers, and their families all pay the steep price of that uncertainty.
Passing a transportation plan is just one of the topics I discuss in the latest episode of "On The Go." You can tune in to learn how DOT is developing America's commercial waterways and what we're doing to make sure vehicle navigation systems don't encourage distracted driving. And, if you're wondering how the Obama Administration is helping relieve the pain families are feeling at the gas pump, you'll find your answer in the new "On The Go."
Thanks to everyone who sent questions in this month; I can't tell you how much I enjoy this opportunity to hear what's on your mind and let you know what we're doing here at DOT to increase safety and keep America moving.
So, please start sending in your questions for the next episode, and I'll start working on answering them.
